History of Hot Springs

During the Roaring 20s and the Great Depression, Hot Springs became nationally-known as a center for illegal gambling. At the time the town was home to ten casinos and several small gambling houses. It also became widely known for betting on horse racing. The state government finally cracked down on illegal gambling in 1967.
