Web Design Kansas City, MO – Web Design KC
Web Design Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City has a long and exciting history. While initially the location of Native American tribes, the city itself became incorporated on June 1, 1850, and an official city three years later. With the Kansas and Missouri rivers coming together the location made it a logical destination not only for the water source but for transportation.
Before the founding of the city, explorers first noted the area where the rivers came together back in 1713. Eventually, Spain took control over the region after it signed the Treaty of Paris in 1763. This was designed to help solidify the fur trade industry within the region while reducing conflicts between the French and Spanish.
With the founding of the United States of American in 1776, the new American government looked to push its borders. It completed the Louisiana Purchase in 1804 and explorers Lewis and Clark saw the destination as the perfect site for a military fort.
At the outbreak of the Civil War, Kansas City and the rest of Missouri stood in stark contrast to many of the states around it as its abolished slavery and did not allow the ownership of slaves. However, many in the state were slavery sympathizers and crossed the river into Kansas. Due to its significant military location along the rivers and its position directly between the North and South, it became a major focal point of early fighting. In 1862, the Confederate Army defeated the Union here. Fighting continued, and the Confederate Army again defeated the Union two years later during the Second Battle of Independence.
Where We Are Now
Currently, Kansas City remains on the rise. It has an estimated population of 488,943, which is up nearly 50,000 from the 2010 national census. This makes it the 37th largest city in the United States and the largest city in the state of Missouri (even bigger than St. Louis). The metro population of Kansas City is 2,159,000 (making it the 29th largest metro region in the United States).
Thanks to its recent $6 billion downtown renovation, the city is seeing major development, and some new attractions going up, aimed to bring in not only tourist dollars but new businesses.
Several major Interstates transverse the city, including I 435 and I 470. Plus, U.S. Route 71 cuts through the city as well. In 2005, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority opened the first rapid bus transit line (known as the Metro Area Express). The rapid bus line travels between downtown, the River Market, Union Station, Country Club Plaza, and Crown Center. Additional stops are to be added in the coming years.
There is a two-mile streetcar line that runs between the River Market and Union Station. Additional streetcar lines are also set to open in the coming years.
